The Importance Of Reading For Pleasure

Books are just worlds waiting to be opened.

We live in a day and age where we are constantly being distracted by the demands of life and the tools it brings. An important tool that has made us neglect some of the wonders that life can show us is technology.

Technology is constantly consuming our society and we sometimes fail to remember the simpler things in life. It has such a grasp on us that in our free time we choose to spend that time watching television, playing video games, or using any other technological device.

One of the most underrated ways to release our minds from the stress of society is reading. It is more than just simply reading a book because it can make us become lost in another realm. The book can take us into another dimension and make us forget the hustle and bustle of life. We often think of reading as a dreadful task that we don’t realize how relaxing it truly is. We sometimes forget to sit down, take a breath and enjoy the beauty of reading.

Reading is one of the greatest gifts that we have been given as humans. Reading to me is a way to escape the world that we live in and enter a place that I created. To enter a place that doesn’t exist and become completely lost in the words that are displayed on the pages. It is interesting because you will see the book completely differently than a friend who read the same book. You are able to choose the worlds and places that you want to visit, how the characters look, the places you go, and the events that happen. You have complete and utter control and that is something that we don’t normally have outside our realm of reading. We are able to exercise our imagination and enjoy the wonders that it has to offer.

Aside from reading being a way for us to forget the worlds around us it also can help us learn about different cultures, educates us on topics, look at aspects from different points of views and improve our vocabulary. It propels us to become more knowledgeable about a topic and for it to become more relatable because we understand it. We think we have been through it because we have “stepped” into the shoes of the characters and all of the aspects that come with them. We may have a character in one of our stories that we do not agree with the actions that they display, but it helps us look at life from their point of view. To understand why they chose to demonstrate the actions that they did. It makes us understand situations and people that usually aren’t understood. All anyone wants to be is understood and known and by reading you make those people in those worlds come to life.
